Permanently Closed

After 32 years operating in Adelaide on the River Torrens, sadly Adelaide Gondola has now ceased operation.

It has been quite an amazing journey, meeting wonderful people and sharing with them on their special day. Over 1100 proposals, 2 weddings, countless birthdays, anniversaries, romantic and relaxing outings. We've been documented on tourism and news TV, magazines, newspapers and radio.

My special thanks to Bill and Ray from the restaurants where I operated, they and their staff gave me so much support and hospitality.

On March 7 this year, the council closed the dock on the restaurant, where I kept the gondola and did much of my operation. The dock was in need of repairs by the council they said, but right up to my closure, nothing was done, no word on when it was to be done. I asked for a meeting with the relevant department; I heard nothing. Not only was I not able to use it to clean the gondola, I had to pick up and drop off customers at another location, which added 30–40 minutes to my set up and pack up time each time I went in.

In early May this year the 2 restaurants closed, and reports in the Advertiser said the council not only didn't offer the restaurants a long-term lease, it had a one-month “out” clause, so sadly they had to close. I have asked what is happening with the building/lease, but no information was forthcoming.

In early October this year the council turned off the water to a tap right next to the gondola, that and the hose I had used for 32 years to clean the gondola. Emails to and from 6 people and a department only resulted in their emails stopping, with still no water. I had to bring 3 litres of water from home to try and clean the gondola.

So I have had to close, sadly with no thought by me of selling the business as a going concern on the Torrens.

I would like to sincerely thank all that have supported me over the decades, it’s been an amazing ride.
